Bird monitoring generates invaluable material for research. The collection of data is based almost exclusively on the work of volunteer birdwatchers. Every year, more than one thousand volunteers join in the data collection, but new participants are always welcome. The busiest times are the monitoring during nesting season and the winter bird count in central and northern Finland.
Research based on the observation data seeks to determine how populations of different species have changed and why. Data from the monitoring are also key when making conservation decisions.
Regular reports are issued on the results of the monitoring.
